ABSTRACT Objectives: This study aims to investigate the association of pentraxin 3 (PTX3) with neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) rather than the disease activity score 28 using C-reactive protein in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Patients and methods: The study included 59 RA patients (11 males, 48 females; mean age 53.79±13.55 years; range 40 to 66 years) and 20 healthy controls (5 males, 15 females; mean age 50.41±6.11 years; range 43 to 56 years). Complete blood count tests were recorded and NLR and platelet/ lymphocyte ratio were calculated. PTX3 and interleukin-6 levels were examined in serum samples. Disease activity of RA patients was assessed by disease activity score 28. Results: Demographic characteristics were similar between the two groups, with no statistically significant difference in terms of sex, age, and body mass index (p>0.05). NLR, PTX3 and interleukin-6 levels were higher in patients with RA than the control group (p<0.05). While erythrocyte sedimentation rate had a positive correlation with mean platelet volume, we found no correlation between NLR and other parameters of disease activity, PTX3, and interleukin-6. Conclusion: We found no correlation between PTX3 and disease activity score 28 or NLR, although PTX3 levels were higher in RA patients than the controls. As a result, we were unable to establish a relationship between PTX3 and disease activity, directly or indirectly. To our knowledge, our study was the first to investigate the relationship between PTX3 and NLR.

Plasma levels of leptin and visfatin in rheumatoid arthritis patients; is there any relationship with joint damage?
Objective (s):Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disorder, primarily targeting the synovium and articular cartilage that leads to joint damage. Recent reports have suggested the role of adipocytokines in mediating joint damage; however it still is a matter of debate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between serum values of adiopocytokines (lept...

Vitamin D3 has a role in many autoimmune diseases and appears to play a function in controlling Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between serum level of vitamin D and RA disease activity score. The serum level of vitamin D in 75 RA patients referred to the rheumatology clinic of Rasoul-Akram hospital was measured. Patients were classified into low,...
متن کاملLow Serum 25‑hydroxyvitamin D levels: Predictive Value of Hematological and Inflammatory Markers in Patients with Urinary Tract Infection
Background: Low vitamin D has been linked to enhance inflammatory markers in various pathological conditions. We aimed to evaluate the urinary tract infection (UTI)-associated hematological and inflammatory markers mediated by low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]. Methods: Vitamin D level, hematological indices (Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], Monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio [M...
متن کاملThe Association between Depression and vitamin D level with disease activity in patient with rheumatoid arthritis
Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic rheumatologic disease, affecting different aspects of patient life. Although several studies have reported a higher rate of depression among patients with RA, there is still controversy over the underlying risk factors and probable covariates of depression in these individuals. The present study investigated the relationship between disease a...
متن کاملSerum YKL-40 levels and disease characteristics in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Background: The present study aimed to evaluate serum YKL-40 levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to healthy subjects and to search whether there is an association between YKL-40 levels and disease characteristics in RA. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 RA patients based on the ACR/EULAR 2010 criteria and 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included. I...
